Public skeptical of politicians and scientists Print

"The public believes the effects of global warming on the climate are not as bad as politicians and scientists claim, a poll has suggested." "Royal Society vice-president Sir David Read said: 'People should not be misled by those that exploit the complexity of the issue, seeking to distort the science and deny the seriousness of the potential consequences of climate change. The science very clearly points towards the need for us all - nations, businesses and individuals - to do as much as possible, as soon as possible, to avoid the worst consequences of a changing climate.' "

Translation: "People should not be informed by those that understand and articulate the complexity of the issue, seeking to counter our scaremongering. Our propaganda very clearly points towards the need for massive and unprecedented state intervention in the economy, an effective end to the political sovereignty of nations, a dramatic curtailment of individual freedom and larger government subsidies for further research. Our 'Workers of the World unite!' didn't go over so well and we're really hoping you'll be more convinced this time around by a long-term weather forecast."

"The survey suggested that terrorism, graffiti, crime and dog mess were all of more concern than climate change."

Translation: "The survey suggests that the public aren't as gullible as we'd hoped. Curses!"

It's rather amusing to observe that a "consensus" among scientists and politicians apparently indicates that their opinions are unassailable facts, yet a consensus opinion among the public that politically motivated "science" isn't terribly trustworthy is indicative of the ignorance, myopia and selfishness of the unenlightened masses.
