"Some reflections from seven years as Chair of the independent regulator of UK mail services"
Nigel Stapleton has been Postcomm’s chairman since 16 January 2004, when he was appointed for an initial three-year term by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry. On 2 November 2006 he was reappointed for a further four years, until 14 January 2011. He works two and a half days a week for Postcomm.
Mr Stapleton is a non-executive director of the London Stock Exchange plc and a non-executive director of Reliance Security Group plc.
Mr Stapleton is an independent director of two subsidiaries of SamrukKazyna National Prosperity Fund, which manages the State owned assets of Kazakhstan. The two subsidiaries are the electricity generation company - Samruk Energy - and the Kazak postal services provider - KazPost.
He is also a Trustee of the Mineworker's Pension Fund and in February 2009 was appointed Scheme Chairman of the Fund.
Mr Stapleton’s earlier business career included 18 years with Unilever and 13 years at publishing and information company Reed Elsevier.
Mr Stapleton is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and has a degree in economics from Cambridge University.
