This year’s annual Ayn Rand Lecture ‘Atlas is Shrugging: Why we must act now to defend free enterprise’ will be delivered by David Sokol on November 3rd 2014.
The American free enterprise system was not an experiment or an accident of history, but a philosophical recognition by the Founding Fathers of the importance of providing individuals with the freedom to pursue their self interest. In 1957, Ayn Rand’s extraordinary novel ‘Atlas Shrugged‘ told of a world whose motor has stopped. In the Adam Smith Institute’s third annual Ayn Rand lecture, David Sokol will explain the continued importance of the message of this seminal work, and and how ‘Atlas Shrugged’ is predictive as to the future of the American economy if we fail to act soon.
David Sokol is a titan of American enterprise, and owner and chief executive officer of Teton Capital LLC. From 2009 to 2011 Mr. Sokol was chairman and CEO of NetJets, Inc, and was chairman of Johns Mancille Corporation between 2007 and 2011. From 1991 to 2011 he was chairman of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company (now Berkshire Hathaway Energy).
