The Adam Smith Institute has calculated that Tax Freedom Day 2014 falls on 28th May.
Read The Sun's featured, which orignally appeared on p. 2 of the daily newspaper, on Tax Freedom Day below.
"Britain celebrates Tax Freedom Day today -- when workers have paid off their state tax burden and can start earning for themselves.
"The annual event falls three days earlier than last year, a small sign the Coalition is starting to claw back the state's jumbo tax haul, now £648bn. But Dr Eamonn Butler of the Adam Smith Institute, which calculates the day, said it was "outrageous" people had to work "nearly five months soley to pay taxes". He added: "Are we getting five months' worth of value from our bloated government sector?"
