Happy birthday, Ronald Reagan

Ronald Reagan was born on 6th February, 1911. He was the 40th US President, one who restored national morale, held firm conservative principles, and promoted economic growth through his ‘Reaganomics’ policy of economic liberalism. He showed leadership, strengthened national defence, and won the Cold War, aided in part by his tough stance against the ‘Evil Empire’ and his Strategic Defence Initiative (SDI). He brought about the worldwide collapse of Communism.

He has a lasting impact on American optimism and global freedom. His policies, which included tax cuts and deregulation, helped initiate a long period of economic growth starting in 1982, adding 19 million jobs, while significantly reducing inflation.

Following the divisions of the Vietnam war, he restored morale and optimism. He rebuilt the American spirit, rebuilding confidence in the presidency and the nation's position in the world. His strong stance against Communism and advocacy for the Strategic Defense Initiative were instrumental in ending the Cold War, championing democracy, and bringing about the collapse of the Soviet Union.

He championed limited government, a strong national defense, and traditional family values. He was known as the ‘Great Communicator’ for his ability to connect with everyday Americans and articulate a hopeful, patriotic vision to a nation yearning for purpose

He was a supporter of democracy and free trade, and initiated the Free Trade Agreement with Canada and was an advocate for freedom worldwide. His legacy was to remind America of its core values, and to express its sense of moral purpose. He richly deserved his place in history, and the affection of his people.

Happy birthday, Mr President. Your spirit lives on.
