The billionaires already gave at the office

Ah, here we have it, The Guardian whine:

Every story about Dolly Parton’s generosity should shame the super-rich, who could easily make the world a better place for all

Dolly did indeed do good things. To be applauded. But it’s worth thinking about those super-rich. Say, Mr Bezos. Amazon has lowered the CPI - that’s the general price level across the entire US economy - by 2 to 4%. Something which accrues to consumers each and every year. Zuckerberg - through Messenger and WhatsApp - provides free, as in free, buckshee, sem preco, bez oplaty, telecoms to half the species. Elon’s, among other things, producing cheap broadband internet to any place on Earth. And so on - the things that made these people billionaires is that they provided a benefit.

We regard all of those things, and others, as making the world a better place. The true story about the billionaires is that they already gave at the office.
