Celebrating the 50th year of F.A. Hayek’s Nobel Prize

Why now

This year marks the 50th year anniversary of Friedrich Hayek's Nobel Prize. We strongly believe that Hayek's ideas are as relevant as ever and want the younger generation to have the chance to be inspired by them too.

We find younger people to be particularly amenable to these ideas since they align so well with their intrinsic entrepreneurial spirit and a healthy distrust of authority.

Promoting Hayek’s ideas to the under 35s demographic has the potential to solidify their instincts and turn the tide for their generation and the country as a whole.

Hayek at the ASI

We want to seize the momentum arount this anniversary to build awareness and excitement about Hayek’s ideas with the new generation.

  • Applying Hayekian thought to AI policy: Bringing together researchers, AI practitioners and capital allocators to drive policymakers to a proportionate “permissionless innovation” approach to regulating AI

  • Republishing a book: ‘Hayek: A Commemorative Album’ with five new essays

  • Recording high-quality video material on the key ideas (the spontaneous order, the use of information in society, the sensory order) linked to their relevance in 2024 to share across social media platforms

  • Helping the next generation of Hayek enthusiasts to meet and carry the life-long meaning of his writings

Few mean as much as Hayek does to the Freedom movement.

We know Hayek to often having been the entry to free market thought - some would describe encountering the Road to Serfdom for the first time in a libary as a core life memory. Others it remained a constant and a compass in life. Still to others, it has remained a personal source of strength throughout the Liberty movement.

Some, as our co-founder Dr Eamonn Butler, chose to dedicate their lifes in spreading his ideas. Our Chairman and Director of Research of Education were Presidents of the Hayek Society at Oxford University and the London School of Economics (LSE) respectively. Finally, F.A. Hayek was Chair of our Academic Advisory Board.

Marking the occasion is therefore not just core to our beliefs,
it is also very close to our hearts.
