James Gillespie, Fellow


James Gillespie is an experienced public policy professional and is the Adam Smith Institute's Fellow specialising in Economic Statecraft, sanctions policy, and international financial crime. James was previously a Policy Advisor at HM Treasury, where he worked on financial regulation, sanctions and counter illicit finance policy. He also worked at the Department for Business, on the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement. 

In addition to his work for the ASI, James is also an Associate Fellow in the Centre for Finance and Security RUSI, where his main research interests concern ransomware, illicit finance, and the use of sanctions in a cybersecurity context.

James holds an MA in Jurisprudence from the University of Oxford, where he was a member of Corpus Christi College, and a Master of Laws from the University of Southern California's Gould School of Law.
